Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has acknowledged gaps in Pakistan’s efforts to curb extremist content on social media, telling the National Assembly that major platforms comply with only a small share of requests from authorities.

In a written reply to the assembly, Naqvi said social media companies complied with 23.7 percent of requests submitted by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and 47.1 percent of requests made by Counter-Terrorism Departments (CTDs).

Platform-wise figures showed that X complied with just 7.4 percent of requests, while YouTube’s compliance rate stood at 1.9 percent. Facebook complied with 38 percent of requests.

The figures were provided in response to questions about counterterrorism operations and government efforts to restrict extremist content online.

Naqvi also told the assembly that security agencies conducted 5,143 intelligence-based operations across Pakistan between January 1 and September 29, 2026.

These operations resulted in the deaths of 2,410 terrorists, injuries to 806 others, and the arrest of 3,518 suspects, according to the minister.

He said counterterrorism operations were being conducted under the National Action Plan.
