Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has called for an end to the debate over creating new provinces, saying the people of Sindh have already made their position clear.

Speaking to the media at Spencer Eye Hospital in Karachi’s Lyari on Tuesday, alongside Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Bilawal said the Sindh Assembly had rejected the idea several times.

“The people here can determine the fate of this province and the city. I think we should close this topic because the people themselves have closed it,” he said.

Bilawal was responding to a question about pressure on the PPP over the creation of new administrative units and a possible rollback of the 18th Constitutional Amendment.

Asked whether the government had consulted him about a proposed 28th Constitutional Amendment, he replied, “No.”

Bilawal Seeks Federal Attention for Karachi

Commenting on the dispute between the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and Pakistan Railways, Bilawal urged the federal government to pay greater attention to Karachi, describing it as the country’s economic hub.

The debate over new provinces gained momentum in July after Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi proposed talks among political parties on governance reforms.

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has since called for a separate province for Karachi, while the PPP has opposed the proposal.

In September, the Sindh Assembly passed a resolution rejecting any attempt to divide the province.
