Pakistan has invited Qatari investors to explore opportunities in its Special Economic Zones (SEZs), while Qatar-based Retaj Group has expressed interest in potential hospitality projects in Pakistan.
The discussions took place during meetings held by Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan in Doha on October 25 and 26 on the sidelines of the World Investment Forum 2026. The meetings focused on bilateral trade, foreign investment, regional connectivity and cooperation across several economic sectors.
During a meeting with the chairman of Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jam Kamal encouraged businesses in both countries to strengthen commercial ties and expand business-to-business cooperation.
He invited Qatari investors to consider Pakistan’s SEZs, particularly industrial opportunities in Karachi, where export-oriented manufacturing and joint ventures could help businesses access domestic and international markets. The minister also highlighted Pakistan’s geographic position and its potential to connect regional trade networks with wider markets, including Africa.
The Qatar Chamber chairman discussed changes in global supply chains and expressed interest in proposed regional transit routes and connectivity initiatives. Both sides considered how improved transport infrastructure, logistics networks and diversified supply chains could facilitate trade and access to new markets.
In a separate meeting, representatives of Retaj Group discussed potential investments in Pakistan’s hospitality and tourism sectors. The group expressed interest in exploring joint ventures with local business partners and assessing opportunities to expand its hospitality brands into Pakistan and other Islamic countries.
The discussions covered investment partnerships, tourism development and private-sector cooperation.
On October 25, Jam Kamal also met with the secretary-general of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation to discuss trade integration among member countries. The secretary-general acknowledged Pakistan’s support for the organization and emphasized the implementation of the D-8 Preferential Trade Agreement following its ratification by Egypt.
Both sides discussed improving market access, encouraging private-sector participation and translating existing cooperation agreements into commercial opportunities. Jam Kamal reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening economic ties through the D-8 framework.
On October 26, the minister met with Qatar’s minister of municipality to discuss cooperation in agriculture, food security and bilateral trade.
The two sides considered opportunities for closer institutional and business-level engagement in agricultural development and food supply chains. They also discussed identifying practical projects to expand commercial cooperation between Pakistan and Qatar.
