Lawyers in Multan allegedly beat a man accused of crushing 15-year-old orphan Wasim to death before announcing that they would refuse to represent him, while a lawyer has offered to pursue the case for the victim’s family without charging any fees.
Advocate Mehr Fakhar Hayat Hiraj, who is representing Wasim’s family, said lawyers in Multan had united in support of the family and would help it seek justice through the legal system.
Hiraj pledged to handle the case free of charge and said he would make every effort to ensure that the accused faces the consequences prescribed by law. His house is located in the same housing society where the incident occurred, and he said he reached the scene shortly after being informed about it.
Residents of the society also decided to stand together in support of Wasim’s family and pursue justice through the courts.
The lawyer said other individuals were allegedly present with the suspect when the incident occurred and had yet to be traced. According to Hiraj, one person was travelling in a car with the suspect, while two others were on a motorcycle in a nearby street.
He said police were searching for the individuals, who remained untraced at the time of his statement.
Hiraj added that the lawyers’ community had announced that no lawyer would appear on behalf of the accused and that the victim’s family would receive legal assistance.
The family is dealing with the aftermath of the teenager’s death, while the offer of free legal representation could help it pursue the case without the added financial burden of legal fees.
The allegations against the suspect remain subject to the legal process, and he should be treated as accused unless convicted by a court.
