The federal government has decided to abolish 60 percent of permanent government positions that have remained vacant for at least one year.

The decision was communicated by the Controller General of Accounts, which directed the relevant departments to revise their vacancy positions accordingly.

Posts left vacant because of transfers, postings or promotions will be excluded from the exercise and will remain intact.

The positions being abolished will be deducted from the quotas reserved for initial and direct recruitment.

All concerned accounts offices have been directed to prepare fresh vacancy rosters reflecting the revised positions.

Officials have also been instructed to process promotion cases based on the updated vacancy rosters.
