Officers serving in government grades 17 to 22 will be required to disclose their assets, with their details also set to be published on a designated government website, according to officials briefed during Pakistan’s latest talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The issue was discussed during the IMF’s review of Pakistan’s $7 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF), sources said on Monday.

Officials from the Establishment Division, Finance Division and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) shared details of the government’s measures with the IMF delegation.

The IMF was informed about changes made to the legal framework governing asset declarations by civil servants.

A new Section 15-A has been added to the Civil Servants Act, giving the government a legal basis to regulate and monitor the financial conduct of government employees, officials said.

Under the new arrangement, Grade 17 to Grade 22 officers would have to submit details of their assets. The government also plans to place these details on a dedicated website, according to the briefing.

The FBR separately briefed the IMF on customs and income tax issues. Officials from relevant policy wings also presented updates on tax-related measures.

The Secretary Establishment Division and Secretary Finance Division attended the discussions with the IMF delegation, sources said.

The asset declaration measures form part of the broader reforms being discussed under Pakistan’s ongoing IMF program.
