Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has received its first International Air Transport Association (IATA) safety certification renewal since Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Anwar Ali Hyder became chairman, extending the airline’s IOSA registration through September 11, 2028.

The renewal marks PIA’s 12th consecutive successful IOSA registration. However, the Risk-Based IOSA audit itself was carried out from June 8 to 11, 2026, before Hyder took over as chairman on June 29.

A PIA spokesperson said the airline met the required international aviation safety and operational standards during the assessment.

The evaluation covered key areas of the airline’s operations, including flight and cabin operations, ground handling, and cargo services.

The IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) is an internationally recognized framework used to assess airlines’ operational management and control systems.

PIA said retaining its IOSA registration demonstrates its continued focus on safety and operational improvements.

The airline termed the 12th consecutive renewal a major milestone and said it supports its efforts to strengthen safety, security, and overall operational performance.

PIA also recognized the contribution of its staff in meeting the requirements of the latest assessment.
