Nearly 1,000 cargo containers have remained detained at different locations in Islamabad for around two weeks, causing significant financial losses to goods transporters, according to Muhammad Owais Chaudhry, president of the All Pakistan Goods Transport Owners Association.

Chaudhry said the containers are parked at various intersections across the capital and are carrying goods worth millions of rupees.

He urged the government to immediately release containers carrying essential medicines and other critical supplies to prevent further losses and disruption.

Transporters are also incurring daily demurrage and detention charges as the containers remain held for extended periods, he said.

Chaudhry called for the government to compensate affected transporters through a clear and transparent mechanism rather than limiting its response to announcements.

He proposed compensation of Rs. 20,000 per container per day and urged the government to collect complete data on vehicles detained from different cities before processing payments.

He also called for immediate talks between the government and transporters to finalize a mechanism for compensating the losses and ensure the release of containers carrying essential goods.
