The National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology has deferred a proposed law aimed at updating Pakistan’s legal framework for electronic transactions for the third time, with PPP raising concerns over the government’s consultation process.

During the committee meeting, PPP lawmaker Sadiq Ali Memon said the government had not taken the Pakistan Peoples Party into confidence over the legislation.

He said the PPP’s legislative committee had also not provided any instructions on the bill so far.

The committee chairman noted that the legislation had now been postponed for the third time and urged the government to resolve the issue with its coalition partners.

He said the government should either consult its allies and take them into confidence on the proposed law or withdraw it.

The committee’s latest decision means the legislation will remain pending until the government addresses the concerns raised by coalition members.
