The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has prepared a revised draft of the Pakistan Telecommunication (Re-organisation) Amendment Bill after reviewing recommendations from a committee formed by the Prime Minister.

The National Assembly had passed the earlier version of the bill on June 11, 2026. It was then introduced in the Senate, which referred it to the relevant standing committee on June 15.

Lawmakers on the committee raised concerns about provisions involving private property.

The bill also faced criticism on social media, prompting the Prime Minister to establish a committee headed by Azam Nazeer Tarar to examine the disputed provisions.

The committee recommended changes focused on strengthening protections for private property and addressing concerns surrounding right-of-way provisions.

The revised draft incorporates those recommendations as the government prepares to reintroduce the legislation in the National Assembly.

The revised bill is expected to be presented in the National Assembly during its next session. Before it is tabled, the government plans to consult its coalition partners on the proposed amendments.

The move follows the government’s withdrawal of the Pakistan Telecommunication (Re-organisation) Amendment Bill, 2026, from the Senate on August 28. The bill was withdrawn before completing its 90-day constitutional period, after which it would have had to be considered by a joint sitting of Parliament.

The withdrawal reportedly came as no joint sitting had been scheduled.
