Germany is seeking to expand business and economic ties with Pakistan, with German Ambassador Ina Lepel expressing interest in greater cooperation between companies from both countries.

Lepel made the remarks during a meeting with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Tuesday. She also congratulated Pakistan on its recent sovereign credit rating upgrade by Moody’s and welcomed progress on economic reforms.

The ambassador said the improved rating reflected growing confidence in Pakistan’s economic outlook and reform agenda.

Aurangzeb briefed her on improvements in Pakistan’s foreign exchange position and the government’s efforts to maintain fiscal discipline. He said Islamabad was focused on economic stability, structural reforms and improving conditions for investors and businesses.

The two sides discussed German companies operating in Pakistan and opportunities to increase bilateral business activity.

Aurangzeb emphasized policy continuity, easier business procedures and institutional reforms as key to attracting more investment.

He also highlighted the government’s efforts to digitalize the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), saying technology-based reforms would improve tax collection, transparency and compliance while making the business environment more predictable.

Lepel welcomed Pakistan’s economic stabilization efforts and reaffirmed Germany’s interest in strengthening trade and investment ties.

She also invited Aurangzeb to attend the 19th Asia-Pacific Conference of German Business in Seoul later this year.
