The National Information Technology Board (NITB) has introduced an advanced application security testing tool to strengthen the cybersecurity of government software and digital services.

The new system is designed to detect security vulnerabilities early in the software development process, allowing developers to address weaknesses before applications are deployed. It is also expected to improve protection against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats targeting public-sector digital platforms.

To support the rollout, NITB conducted a training and demonstration session for its technical teams, familiarizing software developers, quality assurance engineers, and other IT officials with the tool’s capabilities and its integration into the software development lifecycle.

The training covered vulnerability scanning techniques, security assessment methods, early identification and reporting of software flaws, and best practices for building secure applications.

Officials emphasized that incorporating security testing before software is released can significantly reduce cyber risks by identifying and fixing vulnerabilities at an early stage.

Participants also received practical guidance on embedding security checks throughout the development process, enabling government applications to be tested continuously before reaching end users.

According to NITB, the new security testing tool will strengthen its cybersecurity framework and help deliver more secure, reliable, and resilient digital services across the public sector. The initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance Pakistan’s cybersecurity preparedness and safeguard government digital infrastructure against evolving cyber threats.
