The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Gilgit-Baltistan government have agreed to accelerate efforts to improve internet services and strengthen digital infrastructure across the region.

The commitment was made during a meeting chaired by Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Amjad Hussain, where PTA Chairman Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman briefed officials on ongoing and upcoming projects aimed at expanding high-speed, reliable internet connectivity.

The PTA chairman said multiple initiatives are underway to improve telecommunications infrastructure and provide residents with more stable internet services across Gilgit-Baltistan.

Chief Minister Amjad Hussain said reliable internet has become essential for Gilgit-Baltistan, one of Pakistan’s leading tourist destinations. He noted that better digital connectivity would boost tourism, improve e-governance, support local businesses, attract investment, and contribute to economic growth.

He also highlighted prolonged electricity outages as a major cause of internet disruptions and urged internet service providers to deploy backup power systems to keep services running during power cuts.

The PTA chairman assured the provincial government of the regulator’s full support and said a joint meeting with all relevant stakeholders will soon be held to finalize practical measures for improving internet connectivity.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding digital infrastructure to support tourism, education, healthcare, trade, public services, and broader socio-economic development across Gilgit-Baltistan.
