The Pakistani rupee strengthened further against the US dollar on Thursday, closing at its strongest level in nearly 21 months while extending its winning streak to 199 consecutive trading sessions.

According to the State Bank of Pakistan, the rupee appreciated by three paisas to settle at Rs. 277.97 per US dollar, marking the first time since October 2024 that the local currency has closed in the 277 range against the greenback.

The rupee has been on a sustained upward trend against the dollar since December 25, 2025.

Among regional currencies, the PKR also gained one paisa against the UAE dirham and three paisas against the Saudi riyal.

However, the local currency weakened against several major global currencies. It lost Rs. 4.24 against the British pound, Rs. 1.08 against the euro, Rs. 1.59 against the Australian dollar, and Rs. 1.63 against the Canadian dollar. It also slipped by 17 paisas against the Chinese yuan.

Despite these losses, the rupee’s continued appreciation against the US dollar remains one of its longest uninterrupted rallies in recent years.
