Pakistan-born Councillor Faisal Rana has been appointed Mayor of Rochdale for the 2026-27 civic year, taking over as the borough’s ceremonial head.
Originally from Lahore, Faisal began his professional career as a commissioned officer in the Pakistan Navy. During his military service, he studied mechanical engineering, specialised in marine engineering and completed advanced training in warship construction at the DCN Lorient Naval Shipyard in France before later relocating to the United Kingdom.
Since joining Rochdale Council, Faisal has represented the Spotland and Falinge ward for almost a decade. He has held several senior positions, including Assistant Cabinet Member for Public Health, served on finance-related portfolios and chaired the Rochdale North Township Committee.
Alongside his public service, Faisal has built a business career spanning more than two decades, including serving as a director of a company linked to Shell UK. He now manages a property business in Rochdale.
During his mayoral term, Faisal will support charities focused on healthcare, bereavement services, military veterans and women’s empowerment. He is also a licensed private pilot and an active badminton player.
