The Pakistani rupee extended its winning streak against the US dollar to 194 consecutive trading sessions on Thursday, appreciating by one paisa in the interbank market.
According to the State Bank of Pakistan, the rupee settled at Rs. 278.0633 per dollar, compared with Rs. 278.0712 a day earlier. The local currency has been strengthening against the greenback continuously since December 25, 2025, and is now approaching the Rs. 277 level.
Among regional currencies, the rupee remained virtually unchanged against the UAE dirham, gaining 0.22 paisa, while it also appreciated 1.2 paisas against the Saudi riyal.
The local currency posted stronger gains against the Australian dollar, rising 4.72 paisas, and advanced 28.94 paisas against the Canadian dollar.
However, the rupee weakened against several major European currencies, falling 25.51 paisas against the euro and Rs. 1.2963 against the British pound. It also slipped 1.27 paisas against the Chinese yuan.
Overall, the rupee’s appreciation against the US dollar has remained intact, marking nearly six and a half months of uninterrupted gains in the interbank market.
