The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and telecom operators nationwide to activate emergency response plans as the threat of flash floods and monsoon flooding intensifies.

In its directives, the ministry asked all relevant organizations to remain on high alert and take immediate precautionary steps to protect telecom infrastructure from possible damage caused by heavy rainfall and flooding.

Under the instructions, the PTA has been asked to activate its dedicated control room to monitor the evolving situation and coordinate emergency response efforts. The regulator has also been directed to maintain close coordination with the National Disaster Management Authority to ensure a unified response in the event of any emergency.

Telecom operators have been told to work closely with Provincial Disaster Management Authorities and district administrations in vulnerable areas. They have also been instructed to continuously monitor weather conditions, assess risks to network infrastructure and take preventive measures to reduce the chances of service disruptions.

The ministry stressed that uninterrupted communication services must be maintained during natural disasters. Operators have been asked to closely monitor networks in flood-prone areas, keep restoration teams on standby and begin repair work immediately if any telecom infrastructure is damaged.

The directives have been issued ahead of the monsoon season, when heavy rains and flash floods often disrupt communication networks in different parts of the country. Last year’s monsoon rains damaged telecom infrastructure in several regions, prompting authorities to strengthen preparedness measures for the current season.
