Former federal minister and Lahore businessman Gohar Ejaz has called for major tax relief for Pakistan’s salaried individuals ahead of the 2026–27 budget.
In a statement shared on X, Ejaz proposed replacing the existing structure with three simplified flat tax slabs aimed at reducing pressure on middle-income earners.
He argued that high taxation, especially for those earning under Rs. 1.5 million monthly, is limiting household spending on essentials such as utilities, education, and healthcare.
Ejaz described salaried workers as a key driver of the economy and said boosting their disposable income would stimulate broader economic activity.
His proposed structure includes:
- 5% tax on monthly income from Rs. 100,000 to Rs. 500,000
- 10% tax on Rs. 500,000 to Rs. 1.5 million
- 20% tax above Rs. 1.5 million
He urged policymakers to reconsider the proposed budget framework, arguing it would enhance consumption and indirectly improve government revenue.
The government has already indicated some relief measures for salaried taxpayers in the upcoming budget.
