The government has approved the removal of taxes on contraceptives, including birth control pills, as part of efforts to improve access to reproductive health services and promote family planning across the country.

The decision comes amid concerns over Pakistan’s rapidly growing population, which ranks among the largest in the world, placing continued pressure on social services, healthcare, and economic resources.

Officials said the tax exemption is intended to make contraceptive products more affordable and widely available, particularly for low-income groups. The policy is also aimed at encouraging responsible family planning practices and strengthening public awareness regarding population management.

The government believes improved access to reproductive health tools can help reduce maternal and child health risks, ease financial strain on households, and support long-term sustainable development goals.
