A meeting of the National Assembly’s Interior Committee on Tuesday raised serious concerns over reported travel difficulties faced by Pakistani parliamentarians, with claims that some MPs and diplomats were allegedly offloaded or stopped at Dubai airports despite holding official blue passports.
Several lawmakers complained that elected representatives and their families are being subjected to inconsistent immigration checks abroad, and urged the government to take up the matter formally with relevant foreign authorities to ensure smoother facilitation.
During the briefing, members questioned whether any informal arrangements exist between foreign immigration authorities and Pakistan regarding the handling of official passport holders. Officials responding to the queries said all such matters are addressed through formal diplomatic channels, and coordination with foreign ministries is ongoing.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) also informed the committee about reported instances of misuse of diplomatic and official passports at airports including Dubai and Doha, where suspicious or fraudulent travel records had been identified.
The Interior Ministry assured the committee that the issue would be taken up through diplomatic channels to resolve concerns related to the travel of parliamentarians.
