Punjab’s overall development budget for the upcoming fiscal year is expected to be set at around Rs1,450 billion, according to official budget planning documents.

A second draft of recommendations for the provincial budget has been prepared, outlining key priorities and major infrastructure allocations for the next financial year.

The transport sector emerges as the top focus area, with proposed large-scale projects worth Rs303 billion aimed at improving connectivity and infrastructure across the province.

Officials have suggested allocating Rs980 billion for the overall development program, covering a wide range of sectors including urban services, law enforcement infrastructure, and rural development.

As part of the plan, new smart police stations are expected to be constructed in several districts, including Okara, Rawalpindi, Kasur, Multan, Gujranwala, and Pakpattan.

Major urban development initiatives in Lahore, along with clean water projects and model village schemes, are also included in the proposed budget framework. The model village initiative alone is expected to receive Rs30 billion, while Rs42 billion has been proposed for road rehabilitation programs.

For the local government sector, a proposed allocation of Rs250 billion has been prepared, with Rs156 billion specifically earmarked for local development activities.

The draft also includes plans to enhance autonomy for local government representatives in the coming fiscal year, alongside the introduction of an IT-based monitoring system for local governance, for which Rs560 million has been proposed.

Additionally, around Rs50 billion is suggested for sewerage improvement and road restoration projects at the union council level.

Overall, the proposed budget reflects a strong focus on infrastructure expansion, urban development, and strengthening local governance systems across Punjab.
