Lahore police have registered cases against police personnel accused of asking citizens for “Eidi,” officials said, as the department moved under its zero-tolerance policy against misconduct.
According to a police spokesperson, the action was taken against officials whose conduct was found to be damaging the reputation of the police force.
The spokesperson said DIG Operations Faisal Kamran had earlier issued strict instructions to field officers to refrain from any illegal activity. Despite those directions, complaints later surfaced that some police personnel in Shahdara and Islampura were demanding money from citizens in the name of Eidi.
After taking notice of the complaints, DIG Operations assigned an inquiry to the SDPO Islampura. The inquiry found the allegations to be correct, following which cases were registered against the personnel involved.
One case was registered at Shahdara Police Station under FIR No. 2548/26, while another was registered at Islampura Police Station under FIR No. 1186/26.
The spokesperson said the cases had been lodged under Section 155-C and the anti-beggary law.
DIG Operations Faisal Kamran said no leniency would be shown to anyone found damaging the police department’s reputation by demanding money from citizens.
He said such individuals, including those who misuse their authority, have no place in the police force, adding that strict legal and departmental action would continue against officials who bring disrepute to the department.
