The Karakoram Highway has been completely shut down for all types of traffic after heavy rainfall triggered landslides and mudflows at several points along the route, causing major disruption to travel and freight movement.

According to a spokesperson for the National Highway Authority, the highway has been closed between Boshidas and Tatta Pani due to blocked sections and accumulated debris, leaving passengers and transporters stranded and facing severe difficulties.

The NHA said heavy machinery has been moved to the affected stretches to clear landslide material and restore traffic as soon as possible. Emergency clearance operations are underway on a priority basis.

However, officials warned that ongoing adverse weather conditions are slowing down the restoration work as fresh mudslides and rain continue to hamper efforts to reopen the vital route.
