The Pakistani rupee continued its upward momentum on Tuesday, strengthening against major global currencies and extending its gains against the US dollar for the 158th consecutive trading session.

In the interbank market, the rupee closed at 278.6616 against the US dollar, registering a marginal gain of one paisa during the day. It also showed broad-based strength against several other major currencies.

The local currency gained nearly Rs. 3 against the British pound, closing at 376.4579. It also appreciated against the euro, Australian dollar, Canadian dollar, and Malaysian ringgit during the session.

Against the euro, the rupee closed at 327.2602 after a gain of 84.95 paisas. It strengthened by 78.85 paisas against the Australian dollar and 56.61 paisas against the Canadian dollar.

In other currencies, the rupee posted gains of 14.73 paisas against the Malaysian ringgit, while remaining largely stable against the UAE dirham and slightly strengthening against the Saudi riyal. The Chinese yuan saw a marginal change in the opposite direction.

Overall, the rupee maintained a firm tone across the foreign exchange market, continuing its sustained performance against major global currencies.
