A brave citizen lost his life after stopping a suspected suicide bomber near Kohat, preventing what officials said could have been a major attack on a sensitive check post in the inter-provincial border area.

According to security sources, the incident took place near the Jand and Khushalgarh Bridge, located in the inter-provincial area between Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Sources said a suspected militant was moving through fields toward the area when a local resident, identified as Liaqat, intercepted him and asked for his identity. Liaqat was a resident of Mankor village in Jand tehsil of Attock district.

As soon as he was questioned, the suspected suicide bomber reportedly panicked and detonated himself.

Security sources said Liaqat was martyred on the spot in the blast, while the attacker was also killed.

According to officials, the suspected militant was attempting to reach a sensitive check post located in the border area, and Liaqat’s timely action helped avert a potentially large-scale loss of life.

Sources added that Liaqat was a retired Pakistan Railways employee and described his action as an extraordinary act of bravery that saved the local population from possible devastation.
