The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi has frozen four more high-value properties linked to Bahria Town on the instructions of an accountability court, in a major development in the ongoing money laundering investigation.

The action was taken under the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2010 after investigators concluded that the assets were allegedly acquired through the laundering of crime proceeds.

Among the attached properties is the Bahria Icon Tower in Clifton, Karachi. Investigators alleged that around Rs. 8 billion in suspected crime proceeds was funneled into the project’s construction.

Authorities said the property was allegedly being held through a front company, M/s Galaxy Construction Pvt Ltd. NAB also attached Bahria Town Tower on Tariq Road in Karachi after investigators concluded that the project was allegedly held in the name of Muhammad Awais, who has been described as a benami frontman for Malik Riaz Hussain and Bahria Town.

The operation also extended beyond Karachi. NAB attached 817 kanals of land in Sheikhupura and another 2,029 kanals in Peshawar, where land had been earmarked for Bahria Town Peshawar. Investigators said the land was allegedly owned through M/s Lifestyle Development (SMC) Pvt Ltd.

According to officials, the companies involved have been identified as alleged front entities used to facilitate the laundering of illicit funds.

The latest action comes amid continuing legal and accountability proceedings involving Bahria Town founder Malik Riaz Hussain and several real estate-related investigations.

Bahria Town has remained under scrutiny in recent years over land acquisition disputes, alleged financial irregularities, and money laundering inquiries involving billions of rupees.

NAB officials said the latest move is part of ongoing efforts to identify, freeze, and legally pursue assets suspected of being acquired through financial crimes and benami arrangements. Legal proceedings related to the attached properties are currently underway.
