The Power Division has introduced a new mechanism under which electricity consumers receiving government subsidies will now be able to see the exact subsidy amount reflected on their monthly electricity bills.
According to a spokesperson for the Power Division, electricity distribution companies have begun incorporating QR codes on bills as part of a broader effort to enhance transparency and ensure that subsidies are accurately delivered to eligible consumers.
Under the new system, consumers will be required to scan the QR code and complete an online registration process. Officials said the initiative is aimed at verifying eligible households so that low-consumption and low-income families continue to receive targeted relief.
The Ministry of Energy clarified that the move does not indicate any withdrawal of subsidies. Instead, it has been described as a transparency and verification mechanism designed to improve oversight of public funds and prevent potential leakages in the system.
Officials reiterated that the government remains committed to supporting poor and middle-income households despite ongoing economic pressures and fiscal constraints.
Consumers have been advised to complete the registration process at the earliest through the QR code provided on their bills to avoid any disruption in subsidy eligibility. The Power Division has also instructed consumers facing billing errors or technical issues to contact their respective electricity distribution company helplines for assistance.
