The Universal Service Fund (USF) is preparing to roll out its Next Generation Broadband for Sustainable Development (NG-BSD) programme aimed at improving internet connectivity in underserved regions of Pakistan.
Under this initiative, broadband services will be extended to three districts—Bahawalpur, Mirpurkhas, and Kolai Palas—with each district treated as a separate package for the bidding process.
The project is designed to address gaps in digital access by expanding high-speed internet to areas where connectivity remains limited. The goal is to support local communities by improving access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities through reliable digital services.
USF will implement the project through a reverse auction system, where interested companies will compete for subsidies by offering the most cost-effective solutions for network deployment. The selected operators will be responsible for developing and maintaining broadband infrastructure in the target areas.
Only eligible firms meeting required conditions, including valid tax registration such as NTN and sales tax status, will be allowed to participate. Complete details regarding bidding procedures, technical requirements, and timelines are available on the USF official website.
As per the schedule, bids for the Bahawalpur project must be submitted by May 21, 2026, while separate deadlines apply for the other districts.
The fund said the programme is part of a wider national strategy to strengthen digital infrastructure and expand internet access across remote and underserved parts of the country.
Once completed, the project is expected to deliver affordable high-speed internet to thousands of residents, helping reduce the digital divide and improve connectivity-driven development in these regions.
