Pakistan on Monday rejected a media report claiming that its military leadership had approached US President Donald Trump to request the removal of a US naval blockade on Iranian ports in order to facilitate peace talks between Washington and Tehran.
The report, published by Reuters and attributed to unnamed Pakistani security sources, alleged that Field Marshal Asim Munir had conveyed the proposal as part of efforts to advance diplomatic engagement between the United States and Iran. It further suggested that the idea was under consideration by the US leadership.
Pakistani officials swiftly dismissed the claim, saying no such communication or proposal had been made. A senior source stated that no Pakistani security authority had provided information to any international news organization regarding the matter.
Officials described the report as inaccurate and misleading, emphasizing that it did not reflect Pakistan’s position or any official engagement on the issue.
The White House had not issued a response to media inquiries regarding the reported claims at the time of publication.
