Pakistan has taken a significant step in expanding its transit trade network with the launch of the first refrigerated TIR export shipment of beef from Karachi to Central Asia via Iran.
The consignment was dispatched from BOML Container Freight Station (CFS) under the TIR system and will travel through the Gabd Border Post (250) near Gwadar, entering Iran via Rimdan before continuing onward to Uzbekistan. The move establishes a new overland trade route connecting Pakistan to Central Asian markets through Iranian territory.
The inaugural movement was formally inaugurated by Pakistan Customs officials, including Director General Transit Sanaullah Abro and Director Transit Rashid, at BOML CFS. Representatives of logistics operator M/s Broadpeak, including Farhan Siddiqui and Tayyab, were also present along with officials and management from BOML CFS and the PNC-ICC chair.
Officials termed the development an important milestone for Pakistan’s transit and logistics sector, highlighting the strategic importance of the Gabd–Rimdan route in improving regional connectivity and strengthening Gwadar’s role as a trade hub.
Stakeholders involved in the initiative said the collaboration between Customs authorities, TIR operators, and logistics companies reflects Pakistan’s push toward expanding transshipment operations through Karachi and Gwadar ports. They noted that international container movement through Karachi is already showing an upward trend.
The new corridor is expected to provide exporters with faster, more efficient access to Central Asian markets while further integrating Pakistan into regional supply chains.
