The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has imposed a Rs. 2 crore fine on fast bowler Naseem Shah for violating the terms of his central contract and the board’s social media regulations after posting on X about Punjab Punjab’s Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
The PCB confirmed that disciplinary proceedings were initiated after the cricketer’s social media activity was found to be inconsistent with contractual obligations governing national players.
The board had issued a show-cause notice to Naseem Shah on March 27, seeking an explanation over alleged breaches. After reviewing his written response, a three-member disciplinary committee conducted a personal hearing to examine the matter.
The committee concluded that multiple clauses of the central contract and PCB social media guidelines had been violated. Despite acknowledging the pacer’s unconditional apology, the board decided to impose a fine of Rs. 2 crore.
The PCB also noted that Naseem Shah had terminated his social media adviser after the controversy. The adviser has now been blacklisted by the cricket board and barred from working with any player operating under PCB jurisdiction.
“The PCB remains committed to maintaining professional standards, enforcing contractual responsibilities, and protecting the integrity of Pakistan cricket,” the statement added.
This is one of the largest financial penalties handed to an active Pakistan international cricketer for social media misconduct.
