Pakistan’s recent 5G spectrum auction could dramatically boost the country’s digital capacity and enhance mobile network performance, according to a new report by global mobile analytics firm Opensignal.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) held the auction on March 10, which experts describe as a key milestone toward faster and more reliable mobile services nationwide.

The report notes that the auction more than doubled the mobile spectrum available to operators, providing the capacity needed for next-generation 5G networks. Pakistan has lagged behind several South Asian countries in terms of download speeds and overall network quality, making the spectrum expansion crucial for future growth.

Three major telecom operators participated in the auction, securing large blocks of frequency. In total, approximately 480 MHz of spectrum was sold, generating over $500 million and marking the largest spectrum sale in Pakistan’s history.

Opensignal explained that additional spectrum acts like widening a digital highway, allowing more users to connect simultaneously with faster speeds and fewer interruptions. However, the company stressed that user experience will only improve if operators continue investing in network infrastructure, including towers, fiber connectivity, and modern equipment.

The report concludes that while the auction is a major step toward 5G deployment, sustained investment and healthy competition among telecom providers will be essential for Pakistan to catch up with regional peers and deliver better mobile performance to consumers.
