The Senate Secretariat has dismissed recent media reports suggesting the Chairman of the Senate purchased a new Land Cruiser, labeling the claims as misleading, factually inaccurate, and based on incomplete information.

In an official statement, the Secretariat clarified that the vehicle was acquired in May 2025, during the 2024–25 financial year, through a fully transparent procurement process as part of a broader Senate vehicle replacement plan.

The plan covered the replacement of vehicles allocated to the chairpersons of standing committees, the Deputy Chairman, the Leader of the House, the Leader of the Opposition, and other Senate Secretariat officials.

The statement further noted that payment for the vehicle was made using budget savings from the previous year, while delivery of the Land Cruiser occurred in March 2026.

The Secretariat strongly rejected what it called “baseless insinuations” and urged media outlets to exercise due diligence and uphold professional responsibility when reporting on matters concerning state institutions.
