The Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA) believes that the introduction of 5G technology could significantly boost Pakistan’s IT exports and play a key role in expanding the country’s digital economy.
According to the industry body, the recent 5G spectrum auction conducted by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority raised around $507 million, marking an important step toward modernizing Pakistan’s digital infrastructure.
P@SHA also commended the efforts of the Special Investment Facilitation Council and the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication for supporting a transparent and successful auction process.
The association said the deployment of high-capacity 5G networks will offer ultra-low latency and significantly higher bandwidth, allowing Pakistani technology companies to provide advanced and data-heavy digital services to international clients more efficiently.
Chairman Sajjad Mustafa Syed said that 5G would serve as a foundation for emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and augmented reality. These technologies are expected to accelerate digital transformation in sectors including healthcare, education, agriculture, and smart city development.
P@SHA added that improved connectivity will also strengthen cloud computing and edge computing ecosystems in Pakistan. This could help startups and technology firms scale their operations faster, while lowering operational costs and improving cybersecurity capabilities.
The association believes that stronger digital infrastructure will help Pakistan sustain double-digit growth in IT exports and further establish the technology sector as one of the country’s most important export industries.
It urged policymakers, regulators, and telecom operators to ensure the swift and business-friendly rollout of 5G services so that the country’s IT industry can fully capitalize on next-generation connectivity.
