In a continued effort to protect the integrity of Pakistan’s telecom infrastructure, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in close coordination with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), has intensified its enforcement drive against illegal IMEI tampering and unlawful SIM issuance.
In two separate yet significant raids, PTA and NCCIA targeted illegal IMEI tampering and unauthorized SIM issuance. PTA Zonal Office Karachi, in collaboration with NCCIA Hyderabad, conducted a successful raid on a mobile repair shop at Chirag Complex, Unit 8, Latifabad, Hyderabad. The raid led to the confiscation of a desktop computer and specialized software used for IMEI cloning. Two individuals involved were apprehended and taken into NCCIA custody legal action.
In a parallel action, based on a formal complaint by PTA Karachi, NCCIA raided a Zong franchise near Kiran/Memon Hospital, Gulzar-e-Hijri, Scheme 33, Karachi, involved in illegal SIM issuance. Suspected devices were seized, and two individuals, including the branch manager, were arrested. An FIR has been registered and investigation is underway.
These actions reinforce PTA’s commitment to ensuring digital security and regulatory compliance nationwide.
