US President Donald Trump met with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, in a high-level discussion that highlighted Pakistan’s efforts toward regional peace and stability, as well as the strong counter-terrorism cooperation between the two countries. The meeting, initially scheduled for one hour, extended to over two hours, reflecting the depth and cordiality of the dialogue, according to a press release by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
President Trump was accompanied by Secretary of State Senator Marco Rubio and Steve Witkoff, the US Special Representative for Middle Eastern Affairs. Field Marshal Munir was joined by Pakistan’s National Security Advisor.
During the meeting, the army chief expressed Pakistan’s appreciation for President Trump’s constructive and result-oriented role in facilitating a ceasefire between Pakistan and India amid recent regional tensions. The COAS acknowledged Trump’s statesmanship and his ability to address complex global challenges.
The two leaders discussed expanding bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including trade, economic development, mines and minerals, artificial intelligence, energy, cryptocurrency, and emerging technologies. President Trump expressed strong interest in forging a mutually beneficial trade partnership with Pakistan based on long-term strategic convergence and shared interests.
President Trump also commended Field Marshal Munir’s leadership and decisiveness during a period marked by complex regional dynamics.
The discussion included a detailed exchange of views on the ongoing tensions between Iran and Israel, with both sides emphasizing the importance of resolving the conflict peacefully.
Field Marshal Munir extended an official invitation to President Trump to visit Pakistan at a mutually convenient time, signaling a commitment to strengthening the longstanding partnership between the two nations.
The meeting, held in the Cabinet Room and closed to the press, was followed by a lunch hosted by President Trump in honor of the Pakistani army chief.
The ISPR described the engagement as a significant step in reinforcing the partnership between Pakistan and the United States, built on shared goals of peace, stability, and prosperity.
