The recent tension between Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman and Awami National Party (ANP) President Senator Aimal Wali Khan has been peacefully resolved, thanks to the intervention of close relatives and respected community elders who facilitated a traditional Pashtun jirga.

The reconciliation process culminated with the PTA Chairman’s visit to Bacha Khan Markaz in Peshawar, where he was warmly received by Aimal Wali Khan, party leaders, and workers. In a display of Pashtun hospitality and tradition, the two leaders embraced, with the moment captured by attendees on video and camera.

Addressing the gathering, Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman described the earlier incident during a Senate committee meeting as a misunderstanding. He noted that he had already apologized at the time and had now come to Bacha Khan Markaz to ensure any remaining grievances were addressed. The PTA Chairman expressed deep respect for Aimal Wali Khan and his family, emphasizing that Bacha Khan Markaz is a place where disputes are resolved through dialogue and jirgas, in line with Pashtun customs.

Aimal Wali Khan, speaking to the media, said he accepted the PTA Chairman’s jirga in the spirit of Pashtun tradition and welcomed the delegation to Bacha Khan Markaz. He stressed that while political disagreements are natural, cultural values and mutual respect must always take precedence.

The reconciliation follows a heated exchange between the two leaders during a recent Senate Standing Committee meeting, where Aimal Wali Khan alleged that the PTA Chairman had made an inappropriate remark. The incident led to a privilege motion in the Senate, but both sides ultimately opted for dialogue and traditional conflict resolution, bringing the matter to a close.
