The Sindh government has decided to take strict action against companies and shopkeepers charging customers for printed logo shopping bags. The decision follows a complaint from a Karachi citizen who was charged for a shopping bag by Bata Shoes Company.
According to Mir Shahnawaz, Assistant Director of the Bureau of Supply and Prices in the Agriculture Department, a citizen lodged a complaint against Bata Shoes Company for charging Rs. 30 for a printed logo shopping bag. Despite notices being issued to the company, no response was received. As a result, the case has been submitted to the District Consumer Protection Court South, with proceedings set to begin on March 6.
The complainant stated that the additional charge for the shopping bag was illegal and reported the matter through the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit on the Pakistan Citizen Portal. The Bureau of Supply and Prices Sindh took notice of the complaint and initiated action.
