Pakistan Customs has successfully thwarted an attempt to manipulate the newly launched Faceless Customs Assessment System (FCAS), a digital platform designed to ensure speedy and high-quality customs assessments. In response to the attempted manipulation, Karachi Customs has suspended the licenses of 45 customs agents found involved in the scheme. Show-cause notices have been issued to these agents under the Customs Agents Rules.

Additionally, an appraising officer accused of colluding in the attempt was suspended by the FBR, which has also initiated a formal inquiry against him under the Efficiency and Discipline Rules.

A criminal case has been registered against all individuals involved, including customs agents, appraising officers, and private parties. A dedicated investigation team has been formed, and three individuals have already been arrested. Raids are underway to apprehend the remaining culprits and ensure they are brought to justice.

Despite the attempted manipulation, the FCAS continues to operate smoothly, with no backlog in customs clearances. The system, inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Pakistan two weeks ago, has been widely praised by stakeholders as a transformative step in modernizing customs operations and improving transparency.
