Militants from the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have announced a new campaign targeting businesses and listed firms owned or operated by the Armed Forces of Pakistan, according to a report by Bloomberg. The statement, issued by the terrorist group on Sunday evening, follows recent clashes at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
The TTP specifically named several prominent companies and organizations, including Fauji Cement Company Ltd., Askari Bank Ltd., Fauji Fertilizer Company Ltd., Fauji Foods Ltd., Askari Cement Ltd., Askari Fuels, National Logistic Cell, Frontier Works Organization, Pakistan Ordnance Factory, Fauji Foundation, and the Defence Housing Authority. The group also threatened all institutions with military ownership or shares.
In its statement, the TTP accused the Pakistan Army of maintaining its dominance over the country for the past 70 years through its financial ventures. “The main source of strength for the Pakistan Army is its sources of income, due to which it keeps itself imposed on the country,” said a TTP spokesperson.
The militant group has also issued a warning to civilians, giving them three months to divest from military-run organizations. Employees of these entities have been urged to find alternative sources of income.
