Pakistan Post is planning to automate all its post offices across the country, including those in Karachi, by next year. This modernization initiative, announced by Postmaster General (PMG) Karachi, Maqsood Ahmed Baloch, will also see the introduction of round-the-clock services in each district of Karachi through night post offices.
Karachi currently hosts 179 post offices, although 15 smaller branches have been closed due to financial constraints. The staff from these closed offices will be reassigned to other locations as needed.
PMG Baloch emphasized the importance of Pakistan Post as a vital institution providing services such as parcel delivery, money orders, and urgent document dispatch. The modernization project will initially focus on automating key post offices in Karachi, with plans to expand the system nationwide.
To support this transition, employees will receive training to efficiently manage the new systems, ensuring enhanced public services. In a bid to compete with private courier companies, Pakistan Post is also revising its business strategy to increase revenue and expand service options.
Additionally, the postal service is venturing into the e-commerce sector to diversify its operations and adapt to changing market demands.
