The Punjab government has allocated a substantial Rs. 30 billion for the Chief Minister Punjab Green Tractor Scheme, announced Provincial Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani on Tuesday.

During a meeting with representatives from the tractor industry at Agriculture House, the minister highlighted that this is the largest subsidy ever provided to farmers for tractors.

The scheme aims to support owners of 1 to 50 acres of agricultural land by offering tractors ranging from 50 to 85 horsepower (HP) at a subsidized rate of Rs10 lakh per tractor. The initiative is expected to boost both the agricultural sector and the local tractor manufacturing industry.

Minister Kirmani emphasized the Chief Minister’s desire for the local manufacturing industry to offer an additional 10 to 15 percent discount per tractor to farmers. This move is intended to enhance local farmers’ confidence in the tractor industry and promote agricultural development.

The minister assured that the entire process, from application to delivery, will be mechanized to ensure efficiency and transparency. Farmers will have the option to select a tractor of their choice, and the Agriculture Department’s standard operating procedures (SOPs) will be strictly adhered to during manufacturing.

Secretary of Agriculture Punjab, Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, noted that the scheme would benefit both farmers and the tractor industry. He assured that the supply of tractors, application receipt, and selection process would be conducted transparently.

Raheel Asghar, Chief Executive Officer of Millat Tractor, expressed the local industry’s appreciation for the scheme and pledged full support and cooperation. He also announced that the delivery of green tractors would be free, and the warranty period would be extended beyond one year. Importantly, the fixed price of green tractors will remain unchanged even if the federal government increases the sales tax.

The meeting was attended by Director General Agriculture Extension Chaudhry Abdul Hameed, along with CEOs and representatives from Al-Ghazi Tractor, Barak, Orient, and Pak Tractors.
