The Provincial Disaster Management Authority Punjab (PDMA) has issued a weather advisory warning of rain, strong winds and isolated hailstorms across upper and central parts of Punjab from the night of March 14 until the morning of March 16.
According to the advisory issued from Lahore, a westerly weather system is expected to enter the northwestern parts of Pakistan on Saturday evening and may persist until Sunday morning.
Under the influence of this system, rain, wind and thunderstorms with isolated hailstorms are expected in several districts including Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Sargodha, Mianwali, Sheikhupura, Gujrat, Khushab, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad, Jhang, Chiniot, Bhakkar, Layyah and Dera Ghazi Khan, along with surrounding areas.
PDMA warned that lightning strikes may occur at isolated locations during the forecast period. Daytime temperatures in upper parts of the country are also expected to drop by 3–4°C.
Authorities advised tourists to avoid unnecessary travel and urged farmers to manage crops according to the expected weather conditions.
The disaster management authority has directed district administrations to ensure round-the-clock staffing in emergency operation centres, coordinate with relevant departments for timely response, and deploy additional staff in high-risk areas.
The advisory also instructed emergency services, including Rescue 1122, to remain on high alert and pre-position rescue teams and equipment. Motorway Police have been asked to issue regular traffic advisories and provide updates on road conditions.
PDMA further directed departments to maintain regular situation reports and ensure effective dissemination of safety information through electronic and social media.
