President Donald Trump on Monday renewed his call for international assistance to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, criticizing some nations for their reluctance to provide support, reported Reuters.
Trump made the remarks during a White House event, emphasizing the importance of global cooperation after Iran’s recent drone, missile, and mine attacks effectively blocked the vital waterway, which handles roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas shipments.
“Some are very enthusiastic about it, and some aren’t. Some are countries that we’ve helped for many, many years. We’ve protected them from horrible outside sources, and they weren’t that enthusiastic. And the level of enthusiasm matters to me,” Trump said.
Despite the U.S. call for support, key allies including Japan and Australia confirmed they had no immediate plans to deploy naval forces to secure the strait.
The situation has heightened concerns over global energy supplies and underscores ongoing tensions in the region following recent U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iranian targets.
