A US F-35 fighter jet conducted an emergency landing at a US airbase in the Middle East after being struck by what is believed to be Iranian fire, according to two sources familiar with the situation.

A spokesperson for US Central Command, Capt. Tim Hawkins, said the advanced stealth aircraft was on a combat mission over Iran when the incident occurred. The jet was able to land safely, and the pilot is reported to be in stable condition. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.

This marks what could be the first reported instance of Iran hitting a US aircraft since the conflict began in late February. Both US and Israeli forces are operating F-35 jets in the ongoing hostilities. The aircraft involved is valued at over $100 million.

The incident comes as senior US officials continue to assert progress in their campaign against Iran. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the United States is making decisive gains and claimed that Iranian air defenses have been significantly degraded.
