Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Leghari held a virtual meeting with Türkiye’s Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar to discuss cooperation in the energy sector, with a focus on the planned privatization of Pakistan’s power distribution companies (DISCOs).

During the discussion, Leghari briefed the Turkish minister on ongoing reforms within Pakistan’s power sector and outlined potential investment opportunities linked to the restructuring and privatization of distribution companies. He highlighted the government’s intention to attract experienced international investors and noted that Turkish firms with strong expertise in energy and utilities could play an important role in the process.

The minister also acknowledged the support and cooperation provided by Turkish institutions and experts in Pakistan’s privatization initiatives.

Bayraktar noted that Turkish investors are closely monitoring developments related to the privatization of Pakistan’s power sector and indicated their interest in participating in upcoming opportunities. He also conveyed Türkiye’s readiness to support Pakistan in advancing reforms in the energy sector.

Both sides additionally explored the possibility of organizing a platform that would bring Pakistani officials and Turkish investors together to facilitate engagement and discuss potential investments in the power sector.
