Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain, chaired the inaugural meeting of the Steering Committee on Electric Vehicles on Tuesday, where it was decided to finalize the National Electric Vehicle (NEV) policy within one month.

The policy aims to promote local manufacturing and the early adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), including new energy vehicles (NEVs), to ensure a sustainable transport system in Pakistan.

The meeting was attended by key figures, including Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, Secretary of Industries and Production Saif Anjum, and senior officers from relevant ministries and departments, according to a press release.

During the meeting, Minister Hussain stated that the new policy should focus on promoting energy efficiency and facilitating the transition to clean technologies within the automotive sector. Various stakeholders presented their proposals, contributing to the policy’s development.

The next meeting of the committee is scheduled for next week, as efforts continue to shape a comprehensive strategy for the country’s electric vehicle future.
