Elon Musk’s company Starlink will face delays in obtaining a license to provide satellite internet services in Pakistan, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has linked the issuance of Starlink’s license to the company’s permanent registration with the Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board (PSARB). Sources revealed that the PTA lacks the authority to grant a license based on temporary registration.
PSARB had granted Starlink temporary registration on March 21, 2025, and is currently working with an international consultant to develop regulatory rules for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites. Once these rules are finalized, a checklist for permanent registration will be created, along with the technical and regulatory requirements.
Until Starlink secures permanent registration with PSARB, the PTA has decided not to proceed with issuing the satellite internet service license. This move means Starlink will have to wait longer before officially launching its services in Pakistan.
