Sony Interactive Entertainment will raise prices for all PlayStation 5 models starting April 2, 2026, citing rising global hardware costs and economic pressures. The PS5 Pro faces the largest increase, jumping $150 (around Rs. 42,000), while the standard Disc and Digital editions each rise by $100 (approximately Rs. 28,000).
At the current exchange rate of USD 1 = PKR 280, the new prices are:
| PS5 Variant | Old Price (USD) | New Price (USD) | Old Price (PKR) | New Price (PKR) | Increase (PKR) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 (Disc Edition) | $549.99 | $649.99 | 153,997 | 181,997 | 28,000 |
| PlayStation 5 Digital Edition | $499.99 | $599.99 | 139,997 | 167,997 | 28,000 |
| PlayStation 5 Pro | $749.99 | $899.99 | 209,997 | 251,997 | 42,000 |
The price surge is driven by rising memory and semiconductor costs, supply chain disruptions, higher logistics fees, and tariffs on tech imports. This marks Sony’s second significant PS5 price hike within a year, with the Disc Edition up roughly Rs. 70,000 (~$250) since August 2025.
Gamers may face tighter stock and higher costs, particularly for the PS5 Pro, which is expected to exceed Rs. 250,000 before taxes and import duties. Retailers anticipate a surge in purchases before the April 2 deadline.
Sony is currently the first major console maker in 2026 to announce hardware price hikes. While Microsoft has not yet adjusted Xbox prices, ongoing inflation could pressure competitors to follow suit. Analysts suggest the move helps Sony maintain margins while funding future PlayStation developments and expanding subscription services.
For buyers, the window to purchase a PS5 at current prices is closing rapidly.
