As temperatures rise, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has called on departments across the province to enhance preparations for an impending heatwave. The PDMA warns that mercury levels could reach 4 to 7°C above normal this month, with southern Punjab expected to experience the most extreme heat.
Director General of PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, has instructed deputy commissioners to implement protective measures in public areas to safeguard residents.
In response to the heatwave, the School Education Department has suspended all outdoor activities for children. Schools in Lahore have been advised to display banners with safety tips at their entrances to raise awareness among students and parents.
Farmers have been alerted to the potential impact of the heat on crops, and public awareness campaigns are being organized to provide guidance. The local government has also been tasked with ensuring a steady supply of drinking water in public spaces.
Livestock markets are receiving special attention, with directives for veterinary centers to operate around the clock and for adequate water facilities to be provided at animal markets.
Hospitals are preparing to set up special counters to efficiently handle heat-related cases. Citizens are advised to stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day, stay hydrated, and wear head coverings if they must go outside.
